1. About Half-Life Journey

Welcome to Half Life Journey. As the title of the blog suggests, I am in my mid forties, and I’ve realized I’ve managed to live to what is very likely half of my life span. Like we often hear about mid-forties men, I believe I rounded a corner at the beginning of the year and drove headlong into a midlife crisis. A reasonable person in my shoes might not have entered this cliched point of life, since I am relatively successful as a provider for my family, since I’ve served my country, had and raised children, make decent money and work for the betterment of my community. I have a spouse who loves and supports me. I should have been happy. Some might say I even have the American dream.

The experiences of the first half of my life have gotten me to where I am today, for better or for worse. My experiences taught me how to survive and thrive in chaotic situations and environments that didn’t make much sense. The skills and adaptations I’ve made to be successful in spite of myself have served me well until the twilight of my military career over a decade ago. It was at that time that I started to sense that I wanted something more.

The feeling of wanting more has persisted until I reached where I have been recently, which was rounding the corner into midlife crisis. Yes, the first chunk of my life was largely dysfunction. It’s not a stretch to say 75% of my life thus far has been adaptation and improvisation of some pretty messed up scenarios. Yet where I was and where I am are two different places and two different states of mind. Yes, a big part of my life is over, but the other part of my life, where I aim to be a better human, strive reach a place of fulfillment and enlightenment, to be able to achieve financial freedom, and to help guide others out of their dark times is starting now.

This is the story of the latter chapter of my life, my half life journey. I hope that in these words and thoughts, any of you reading might find some nuggets that inspire and encourage you to persevere in this thing called life. With some luck and effort, I aim to grow into the next phase of living. I hope i can inspire others to do the same. I hope you’ll stick around as I explore betterment and entrepreneurship. Thanks for reading.
